CEC TL2N CD transport
CEC TL2N CD transport
The CEC TL2N is a high-end CD transport intended for audiophile systems that require maximum rotational stability and low time domain distortion. It is used as a reference source for an external D/A converter in serious two- and multi-component digital setups.
Technical characteristics
- Mechanism: CEC Double Belt-Drive (two belts), top-loading with tension plate for disc stabilization.
- Media: CD-DA (Red Book), CD-R, CD-RW.
- Digital outputs: AES/EBU (XLR, 110 Ω), coaxial S/PDIF (RCA, 75 Ω), optical TOSLINK, CEC Superlink (4× BNC; separate clock and data).
- Signal format: 16-bit/44.1 kHz (Red Book); via Superlink physically separate streams for reduced jitter.
- Clocking: internal master clock with low phase noise; architecture focused on jitter minimization.
- Power supply: separate sections for mechanics and digital; low-noise linear power supply.
- Housing: rigid, multi-layered chassis with isolation of mechanical vibrations; top-loader construction for a shorter and stiffer mechanical path.
- Control: local controls and remote control capability.
Sound characteristics
As a transport, the TL2N delivers high temporal stability and precisely formed stereo imaging, with clean attack and clear micro-detail. Tonally neutral, without emphasizing certain ranges; improvements are heard in bass definition, scene focusing and a quieter background due to low jitter.
Compatibility and application
It is ideally combined with external DACs via AES/EBU or coaxial S/PDIF; maximum performance is achieved with compatible CEC DACs via the Superlink interface. A good quality digital connection (matching impedance cables) and a solid mechanical base are recommended. It works in standard hi-fi systems from midrange to reference range.
Condition and maintenance
Condition: used, excellent. The belt-drive mechanism requires periodic inspection/predictive replacement of the belts and basic cleaning of the laser optics according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Service history is not listed; the device is visually and functionally preserved, ready for integration into the system.
